EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE golf opens play at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Monday.
The 54-hole tournament takes place on the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, which is part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The Fighting Joe will be par 72 with yardage of 7,258 for the Championship.
The Cougars recorded their highest-ever finish last year, placing third. SIUE enters the 2018 tournament with the best scoring average in the OVC at 290.7.
"We've had a good year overall," SIUE Head Coach Derrick Brown said. "Our head-to-head record is 40 wins over .500. The guys should be full of confidence."
The championship features all 11 golf-playing institutions in the OVC: Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Murray State, SIUE, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin.
Teams will play one 18-hole round each day Monday-Wednesday.
SIUE tee times for Monday's first round begin at 10:30 a.m. The Cougars will be paired with Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State for the first round.
This season marks the fifth consecutive year the tournament has been contested at The Shoals and the sixth time overall. The Shoals also hosted the event in 2009.
The Cougars lineup for the event:
All five of SIUE's participants appear in the top-12 in scoring in the OVC. Four of the five Cougars in the lineup played in last year's championship. Dore earned All-Tournament honors after finishing fourth. Dixon and Gorman will each be making their fourth straight OVC Tournament appearances.
"The guys returning have quite a bit of experience on this course," Brown said. "Hopefully that experience leads to better scores. It still comes down to three days. We're looking for a solid start on Monday and then we'll take it from there."
