BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following a third-place finish at the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference championship, and a strong fall which included a tournament win, OVC coaches have picked SIUE golf to finish fourth in the 2018 conference race.
Eastern Kentucky, UT Martin and defending champion-Jacksonville State comprised the top three selections in the preseason poll. EKU earned nine of the 11 first-place votes. UT Martin and Jacksonvolle State each received one first-place vote.
The Cougars garnered 72 points for the fourth-place choice. SIUE was followed by Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay, Belmont, Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois.
The Cougars enter the spring season with the lowest scoring average in the league at 290.0, which is nearly two strokes better than UT Martin. SIUE earned a win at its home tournament in September and finished fourth at UMKC to round out the fall schedule.
Four SIUE golfers appear among the top 12 in individual scoring average in the OVC. Kyle Slattery is fifth at 72.6, Austin Glendinning is seventh at 73.0, Conor Dore is ninth at 73.2 and Brady Dixon is 12th at 73.3.
The Cougars resume play Feb. 25-26. SIUE will take part in the Loyola Intercollegiate, which takes place in Goodyear, Arizona. The team will travel to Boulder City, Nevada for South Dakota State's Jackrabbit Invitational March 9-10.
