MADISON, Ill. – SIUE golf has seven players in the top 20 and holds a 13-stroke lead after the first two rounds at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational presented by DoubleTree Hotels.
The Cougars fired two of the top three rounds in school history, on their way to a total of 553 (-15) after two rounds. SIUE's first round score of 275 is the second lowest round all-time, just three strokes shy of the school record. The Cougars' second round score of 278 is the third lowest round all-time.
"Overall it is a great start to the tournament for the team and individuals," SIUE Head Coach Derrick Brown said. "I am proud of the way the guys fought today and played with the lead."
Bradley (566) and UT Martin (569) follow the Cougars in the team standings.
Conor Dore and Austin Glendinning are tied for third overall. Both players carded back-to-back rounds of 69. They have a 36-hole total of 138 (-4) and are two strokes off the pace. Glendinning's 69 is a career-low round for the senior.
Bradley's Ethan Brue sits atop the leader board at 136 (-6). Valparaiso's Drew Alexander is second at 137 (-5).
Jordan Harre, who is playing as an individual, is tied for ninth with three other golfers at 141 (-1). He shot a career-best 69 in the first round. Brady Dixon and Danny Gorman are tied for 12th place at even-par 142. Gorman recorded a career-low 67 in the first round. Will Starkey, also playing as an individual, is 16th at 143 (+1). Kyle Slattery is tied for 18th at 145 (+3).
SIUE and the 16 other schools will begin the final round with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at Gateway National Golf Links
"Tomorrow we need to come out with the same mentality and see where that puts us," Brown said.
