SIUE finished the regular season with 10 wins and six Ohio Valley Conference wins. Both totals are the highest under Jon Harris. The Cougars are returning to the OVC Tournament for the second consecutive season. It is the Cougars' fourth appearance overall.
Hot-shooting Jacksonville State started quickly and never let up in spoiling Senior Night for the SIUE men's basketball team Saturday at the Vadalabene Center. The Gamecocks built a 30-point halftime advantage and coasted to a 97-72 victory. The Gamecocks hit 39 of 71 field-goal tries (54.9 percent) and connected on 14 of 30 from three-point land. Those 14 threes are a season-best total. Jason Burnell's 30 points and 13 rebounds ignited Jacksonville State, which outrebounded SIUE 45-27.
SIUE pulled off a 16-point comeback against Morehead State Jan. 31. It was the largest comeback of the year and the third time this season SIUE has overcome a double-digit deficit. It also was the Cougars's third win this year after trailing at halftime.
Brandon Jackson scored has scored in double figures in 11 of his last 13 games. He recorded his third double-double this year with 16 points and 10 rebounds against Eastern Illinois Feb. 14.
David McFarland has 660 career points and is now 44th all-time in scoring at SIUE. Brandon Jackson stands at 652 and is 45th.
SIUE has played five overtime games this year, which is a school record. The Cougars have played eight overtime periods, which is the most in the NCAA.
The Cougars scored 52 points in the second half against Jacksonville State Saturday. It was the fourth time this season SIUE has scored at least 50 points in a half, not including overtime. SIUE scored 51 points in the second half against Morehead State Jan. 31.
