SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris is in his fourth season at the helm of the Cougars. The native of Edwardsville, Illinois, is 29-85 overall.
The Cougars fell just short of completing a monumental comeback Saturday, falling to UT Martin 73-69. The Skyhawks led 31-25 at half and shot ahead 52-35 midway through the second. The Cougars chopped the Skyhawks' lead to 68-66 on David McFarland's three-pointer with 24.2 seconds left, but UT Martin's Delfincko Bogan converted three free throws in the final 21 seconds to secure the victory.
Brandon Jackson led SIUE with 16 points and 10 rebounds against EIU. It was the third double-double of his career. All three have come this year.
Feb. 2 was SIUE's fifth overtime game this year, which tied for the second most in the country and is a school record. The Cougars have played eight overtime periods, which is the most in the NCAA.
The 16-point comeback vs. Morehead State was SIUE's largest of the year and the third time this season it has overcome a double-digit deficit. It also was SIUE's third win this year after trailing at halftime.
The Cougars scored 51 points in the second half against Morehead State. It was the third time this season SIUE has scored at least 50 points in a half, not including overtime periods.
The win at SEMO featured the most overtime periods (three) for SIUE in the Division I era. It was the third game of at least three overtime periods in school history and the first since the 1984-85 season.
In just his second season, McFarland has 614 career points which is No. 52 all-time at SIUE. He is six points away from breaking into the top 50.
