SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris is in his fourth season at the helm of the Cougars. The native of Edwardsville, Illinois, is 29-83 overall.
Murray State used a dominant second half to score a come-from-behind 86-55 win over SIUE Saturday. The Cougars led by as many as eight points in the first half. Murray State started fast, building a 20-8 lead but the Cougars' defense allowed them to take over the final minutes of the first. SIUE finished the half on a 16-4 run as Murray State landed just one of its final nine field goal attempts in the first period. The Cougars led 38-32 at the break. The Racers scored the first 17 points in the second half and never looked back.
Feb. 2 was SIUE's fifth overtime game this year, which tied for the second most in the country and is a school record. The Cougars have played eight overtime periods, which is the most in the NCAA.
The 16-point comeback vs. Morehead State was SIUE's largest of the year and the third time this season it has overcome a double-digit deficit. It also is SIUE's third win this year after trailing at halftime.
The Cougars scored 51 points in the second half against Morehead State. It is the third time this season SIUE has scored at least 50 points in a half, not including overtime periods.
The win at SEMO featured the most overtime periods (three) for SIUE in the Division I era. It was the third game of at least three overtime periods in school history and the first since the 1984-85 season.
After averaging 25.0 points per game against Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky, Tyresse Williford was selected as the OVC Newcomer of the Week Feb. 4. It was his second weekly award. He earned the honors Jan. 21 after scoring a career-high 33 points against Murray State.
