SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris is in his fourth season at the helm of the Cougars. The native of Edwardsville, Illinois, is 29-82 overall.
SIUE fell on the road at Austin Peay 80-45. Austin Peay raced out to a 36-5 lead and carried a 42-18 advantage into the break. The Governors were 18 for 36 from the field in the first half, including going 6 of 15 from three-point range while SIUE managed just 6 of 25 shots from the field and missed all five three-point attempts. The second half proved to be more competitive, as the Cougars connected on 10 of 15 field goals, including two three-pointers.
Last Saturday was SIUE's fifth overtime game this year, which leads the country and is a school record. The Cougars have played eight overtime periods, which also is the most in the NCAA.
Last week's 16-point comeback vs. Morehead State was SIUE's largest of the year and the third time this season it has overcome a double-digit deficit. It also is SIUE's third win this year after trailing at halftime.
The Cougars scored 51 points in the second half against Morehead State. It is the third time this season SIUE has scored at least 50 points in a half, not including overtime periods.
The win at SEMO featured the most overtime periods (three) for SIUE in the Division I era. It was the third game of at least three overtime periods in school history and the first since the 1984-85 season.
Williford averaged 25.0 points per game last week and was selected as the OVC Newcomer of the Week Monday. It was his second weekly award. He earned co-Newcomer of the Week honors from the OVC Jan. 21 after scoring a career-high 33 points against Murray State.
