SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris is in his fourth season at the helm of the Cougars. The native of Edwardsville, Illinois, is 26-76 overall.
SIUE suffered an 84-81 overtime setback Saturday at Eastern Illinois. After going to overtime tied at 66, EIU pushed the lead to five at 73-68 less than a minute into the period following two made free throws. EIU extended its lead to 81-74 before the Cougars closed the gap with free throws. SIUE buried all 13 free throw attempts in extra time, including three from Tyresse Willford with seven seconds to play which cut the EIU advantage to two at 83-81.
SIUE freshman Cameron Williams was selected as the OVC co-Freshman of the Week Monday. He averaged 22.5 points a game last weekend, including a career-high 27 points against SEMO.
SIUE opened its eighth Ohio Valley Conference season last Thursday. The Cougars improved to 4-4 in OVC openers and are now 36-80 in all-time in the OVC.
The Cougars' 94 points in the SEMO win represented a season high in scoring and were the most points ever scored by SIUE in an OVC game.
SIUE hadn't played an overtime game since Jan. 12, 2017, an 83-81 loss at Austin Peay. The Cougars have played two this season and have not won an overtime game since February 2014 against Southeast Missouri.
SIUE swiped a season-high 13 steals at Drake. It was the most steals in a game for the Cougars since the 2016 season opener at Hawaii.
The Cougars knocked down 36 of 42 free throws against Harris-Stowe. That is the second-most makes and fourth-most attempts in a game during the Division I era.
