FOURTH SEASON
SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris is in his fourth season at the helm of the Cougars. The native of Edwardsville, Illinois, is 21-70 overall. 
 
PREVIOUSLY
Valparaiso outlasted SIUE men's basketball Wednesday, defeating the Cougars 75-70 in overtime at the Athletics-Recreation Center. The Cougars were led by junior transfer Tyresse Williford and true freshman Cameron Williams, who both enjoyed career nights. Williford led all scorers with 24 points on 
10-of-17 shooting. Williams went for 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting. For the game, SIUE hit 46 percent (29-63) of its shots from the field and outrebounded Valpo 39-36.
 
LAST SEASON
In 2017-18, the SIUE Cougars returned to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, their first trip back to the postseason since 2015. SIUE won five games away from home a season ago, marking the most road wins in the Division I era.
 
TWO FOR 20
Williford and Williams each scored more than 20 points in the loss at Valparaiso. The last time SIUE had two 20-point scorers was Nov. 18, 2017 at Stetson.
 
OOOOVERTIME
Wednesday was SIUE's first overtime game since Jan. 12, 2017, an 83-81 loss at Austin Peay.
 
MINUTES MISSING
Junior Justin Benton is sidelined with an injury and a timetable for his return is not yet known. Benton led the Cougars in minutes played at 28.8 a game and averaged 6.5 points per game last season.
 
GRAND THEFT
SIUE matched its 2017-18 season high with eight steals in the season opener. The Cougars had eight steals in a game three times last year.
 
SCORING LEADER
With his 24-point outburst at Valparaiso, Williford took over the lead in scoring at 14.3 points per game. He is tied for ninth in the OVC in scoring.
