EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Ohio Valley Conference released its preseason poll and the All-OVC team Tuesday as part of its annual media day.
OVC head coaches and sports information personnel picked the Cougars 12th in the league. Belmont was picked to win the league and earned eight first-place votes. Murray State and Jacksonville State were picked second and third, respectively, and also received first-place votes. Murray State received nine first-place votes and Jacksonville State picked up the other seven first-place votes.
Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee State, Southeast Missouri, Morehead State, UT Martin and SIUE rounded out the preseason poll.
Belmont's Dylan Windler was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year. He headlined the 12-person Preseason All-OVC team.
Regardless of preseason picks, SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris likes what his team has to offer.
"Our depth will be good," Harris said. "We have some experience, which we haven't had a lot of. We have some guys that have been there and have had some success on the floor."
SIUE opens the 2018-19 season with an exhibition game against Kentucky State Fri., Nov. 2 at Vadalabene Center. The regular season begins Nov. 6 at home against the University of the Pacific.
