Men's Basketball Adds Talent and Size in Eze

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's basketball Head Coach Jon Harris has announced the addition of Elochukwu Eze (Enugu, Nigeria).

Eze, a 6-foot, 10-inch, 240-pound center, is originally from Nigeria, but currently attends Asheville (North Carolina) Christian Academy. Asheville Christian advanced to the state semifinals this past year.

"On the court, Elochukwu will bring a defensive-mentality and a level of toughness to our frontline," Harris said. "He's a strong athlete who is at his best rebounding and blocking shots. His determination and competitive spirit will permeate our locker room."

At Asheville Christian, Elochukwu averaged 7.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while also averaging a block and a steal per contest. He connected on 49 percent of his shots from the field. He was honored as part of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISSA) All-Star team.

Previously, Elochukwu was part of a Florida state championship team in 2017 at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he also holds the record for blocked shots in a career, single season and single game. He also holds rebounding records at Calvary.

"I am excited for this great opporunity to sign with SIUE," Eze said. "In the time I have know Coach Harris, Coach Barone, Coach Wells and Coach Crump I have come to trust in them. I believe they can help me to become the person I am supposed to be on and off the court."

Elochukwu has played with several AAU organizations including Team Breakdown, Florida Vipers and Florida Elite.

He attended the invite-only Super Soph camp for rising high school sophomores and was chosen as the defensive player of the camp.

"I look forward to getting on campus and working with my coaches and Cougar teammates," Eze added.

Elochukwu has succeeded in the classroom as well and was the first international student at Asheville Christian to win an academic award for American History.

"In Elochukwu we add another well-balanced young man who excels in the classroom to our family," Harris said.
