The 2017-18 season marks the 50th season of SIUE men's basketball. The men's basketball program began with the 1967-68 season, under Naismith Hall of Famer Harry Gallatin.
SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris is in his third season at the helm of the Cougars. The native of Edwardsville, Illinois, is 21-65 overall.
JUST WIN BABY
With a win Saturday, the Cougars clinch a spot in next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. SIUE has not been to the OVC Tournament since the 2014-15 season.
Jalen Henry achieved a memorable milestone Thursday at the Vadalabene Center, but it wasn't enough to produce a victory for the Cougars. Henry scored 26 points and became the 16th player in SIUE men's basketball history to reach 1,000 points, yet the Cougars fell to Austin Peay 86-82 in front of 1,583 fans. Teammates David McFarland (15 points and six rebounds), Christian Ellis (11 points) and Keenan Simmons (six rebounds) also contributed to the cause. Simmons, a 6-6 senior from Michigan City, Indiana, also played in his final home game. SIUE won the battle of the boards 32-25 and made 27 of 56 shots, including 8 of 19 from 3-point range. The Cougars sank 20 of 23 free throws.
SIUE trails the all-time series with the Panthers 12-5. Eastern Illinois earned a 78-74 win over the Cougars Feb. 8 in Edwardsville.
