The 2017-18 season marks the 50th season of SIUE men's basketball. The men's basketball program began with the 1967-68 season, the first of three under the late Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Harry Gallatin.
SIUE Head Coach Jon Harris is in his third season at the helm of the Cougars. The native of Edwardsville, Illinois, is 13-50 in two seasons in charge.
Creighton scored 60 second-half points to run away with a 103-66 win over SIUE Saturday at CenturyLink Center Omaha. The Bluejays connected for 69.2 percent (18-26) of their shots in the second half and buried eight three-pointers in the half. The Cougars' Christian Ellis poured in a career-high 19 points. He added three rebounds, an assist and a steal. He was 8-18 from the field. Jalen Henry also scored 19 points and led SIUE with nine rebounds. He was 5-11 from the field and 7-9 at the free throw line. SIUE was 24-62 from the field for the game and just 4 for 20 from three-point range.
SIU Carbondale holds an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Cougars earned a 76-74 win over the Salukis on their last visit to Carbondale in 2015.
