Edwardsville native Jon Harris is in first season at the helm of the Cougars and his first season as a head coach. Harris spent 14 seasons as an assistant coach.
Harris turned 35 in August and is the second-youngest first-year head coach in NCAA Division I men's basketball. Only Chattanooga's Matt McCall (34 in December) is younger. Only 10 head coaches in all of Division I are younger than Harris.
LAST TIME OUT
SIUE men's basketball clawed back from a seven-point second-half deficit to earn a 74-64 win over Portland State Dec. 12. Carr dropped in a scoop shot to move the Cougars within one of Portland State at 60-59. Carr was fouled on the play, hit his free throw and it was 60-60 with 7:22 to play. SIUE never trailed again. The Cougars scored 19 of the game's final 23 points. SIUE went 9 of 11 at the free throw line during the final stretch.
ABOUT THE TROJANS
USC has won two straight games. The only losses by the Trojans came in a tournament in Orlando, Fla. Katin Reinhardt leads five players who average in double figures scoring. He scores 13.1 points per game. Nikola Jovanovic is the rebounding leader at 6.6 a game.
