The Cougars have secured a spot in their first-ever OVC Tournament, to be played March 5-8 in Nashville, Tenn. Seeds, opponents and game times are still to be determined.
ABOUT THE BRUINS
Belmont has won four straight games and nine of its last 10 contests. The Bruins have clinched the East Division and are assured of the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the OVC Tournament. Senior J.J. Mann leads the team in scoring with 18.1 points per game. Fellow senior Blake Jenkins is the rebounding leader with 4.9 rebounds per game.
LAST TIME OUT
SIUE dropped a 66-61 decision to Tennessee State last Thursday night at the Gentry Center. In a game in which neither team led by more than six points, Tennessee State prevailed partly on the strength of eight three-pointers; better than three more per game than its season average. Kris Davis led the Cougars with 14 points. He was 6 of 10 from the field, including 2 of 3 from three-point range. Keaton Jackson finished with 12 points.
Tonight is only the second meeting between the two schools in men's basketball. Belmont joined the OVC in time for last season. The Bruins won last season's meeting 73-43 in Nashville.
The Cougars connected on 61.2 percent (30-49) of their shots in the road win at UT Martin. It is their highest percentage of the year against a Division I opponent. SIUE has made at least 30 field goals in a game six times this year.
