LAST TIME OUT
Donivine Stewart scored a career-high 24 points Saturday to lead SIUE to its sixth consecutive home win, an 84-78 victory over UT Martin in Ohio Valley Conference play at the Vadalabene Center. Stewart, who scored 17 of his 24 points in the first half, finished the night 8 for 9 from the field, including 3 for 4 from three-point range. He was 5 for 7 from the free throw line. He added a game-high eight assists with two rebounds and two steals. Kris Davis chipped in a season-high 21 points. Christian Salecich was the only other SIUE player to score in double figures. He finished with 12 points including a trio of three-pointers.
Tonight marks just the fifth meeting between the two schools. The Cougars won the first meeting of the season, Jan. 16 in Edwardsville. The Cougars and Governors split the series last year with each team winning the road game.
The Cougars connected on 61.2 percent (30-49) of their shots in the road win at UT Martin. It is their highest percentage of the year against a Division I opponent. SIUE has made at least 30 field goals in a game six times this year.
Donivine Stewart earned OVC co-Newcomer of the Week honors this week after averaging 17.5 points and 9.5 assists a game in wins over Southeast Missouri and UT Martin. He leads the team with 115 assists and is the first Cougar to have more than 100 assists since Aamir McCleary had 116 in 2008-09 and 2009-10. Stewart's assist-to-turnover ratio (2.35) is second in the OVC and 66th nationally.
