BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – SIUE junior Rozell Nunn (Kansas City, Kan.) has earned the first-ever Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball Player of the Week award for the Cougars. He also was named as the OVC's Newcomer of the Week.
Nunn was the catalyst for SIUE in a pair of OVC wins for the Cougars. He led SIUE in scoring and rebounding for the week, averaging 17.5 points and seven rebounds in wins over Austin Peay and Murray State.
The junior transfer led the Cougars with 15 points and seven rebounds in the win over the Governors. Nunn secured an offensive rebound, connected on the put back attempt, and subsequent free throw to give the Cougars a two-point lead with just 12 seconds left in Thursday's win. Nunn followed Thursday's game with a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds Saturday to lead SIUE to a win over Murray State; dealing the Racers their first OVC loss of the year.
Nunn joins Belmont's Evan Bradds, who was named the OVC's Freshman of the Week.
The Cougars continue the OVC season when they travel to Southeast Missouri Thursday and UT Martin Saturday.
