Missing two starters and four players overall, SIUE men's basketball fell to 0-4 away from home with a 55-38 loss at Western Illinois December 8 in Macomb, Ill. The Cougars did not have a player finish in double figures scoring. Michael Messer led the Cougars with nine points. Jerome Jones finished with seven points and a game-high nine rebounds.
SCOUTING THE RED DEVILS
Eureka College is an NCAA Division III institution and a member of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). The Red Devils are coming off an 92-64 loss at Texas-Pan American Thursday, and have lost five straight games. Senior Mark Lessen leads the Red Devils with a scoring average of 17.8 and 9.5 rebounds per game.
The two schools have met 14 previous times, but have not played since 2000. The Red Devils won the initial meeting between the two schools, during SIUE's first basketball season in 1967. The Cougars have won the last 13 meetings.
VERSUS THE SLIAC
The Cougars are 4-0 during the regular season against SLIAC opponents under Head Coach Lennox Forrester. SIUE has wins over Greenville College in 2008-09 and again in 2010-11. The Cougars defeated Blackburn and MacMurray in the 2010-11 season. SIUE defeated Greenville and MacMurray in this year's exhibition season.
