BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - One week after announcing plans for divisional play for men's and women's basketball beginning in 2012-13, the Ohio Valley Conference has released its basketball schedules for next season.
The schedules feature 16 games with each team playing divisional foes twice during the season (home and away) and playing teams in the opposite division once a season.
When creating the schedule it was a priority of the league to play as many games after January 1 as possible; the final schedules feature only a handful of games at the end of December.
Men's games will continue to be contested on Thursday and Saturday while for the second year in a row women's games will be played on Saturday and Monday.
Please note that dates on the schedule are subject to change if teams go through the change of schedule approval process with the Conference office.
The 2013-14 schedules will mirror these schedules, meaning if a team opened the 2012-13 at a Conference opponent, that team will host that same opponent to begin the 2013-14 season.
The 2012-13 campaign will include the addition of Belmont University and give the OVC 12 teams for the first time in its history, which dates back to 1948, making it the eighth-oldest Division I Conference.
The West Division will include Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Murray State, Southeast Missouri State, SIUE and UT Martin.
The East Division will include Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.
The final piece of divisional play will be to determine tournament seeding and bracketing. The OVC Championships sub-committee is studying those issues now and the Directors of Athletics will make a decision soon.
