EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Northern Illinois will come to the Vadalabene Center to take on SIUE men's basketball Feb. 18 for the Sears BracketBusters as announced by ESPN.
The Cougars join the 10 other Ohio Valley Conference schools in the 10th annual event. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
"I think playing NIU is good for us. Nobody has to travel very far. It's an in-state school and to be able to play them home-and-home is pretty good," said SIUE Head Coach Lennox Forrester.
Northern Illinois, a member of the Mid-American Conference, has five games before heading to the Vadalabene Center. The Huskies are currently 2-17 overall and 1-6 in the MAC.
This is the second time SIUE has been included in the Sears BracketBusters field. The Cougars played Cal State Fullerton during its last Sears BracketBusters appearances. SIUE, 5-13 overall and 3-6 in the OVC, also has five games to play before matching up against Northern Illinois, including tonight's game at Tennessee Tech.
SIUE will make a return game to Northern Illinois as early as next season.
"BracketBusters is a great thing. It gets you some matchups you probably wouldn't get. Even though Northern Illinois is a team we probably would play down the road," Forrester said.
