EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Men's basketball player Kris Davis (Detroit) earned recognition as the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Week Monday.
Davis was second in scoring for the week, averaging 13 points a game for the Cougars. He scored 11 points Thursday against Austin Peay while also dishing out a career-best five assists. He was second on the team with 15 points Saturday against No. 10 Murray State and added four assists.
Davis was 4 of 8 for the week from three-point range and is now 36 of 62 (.581) from beyond the arc, which ranks second in the NCAA.
This is Davis' second weekly honor. He also was chosen as Freshman of the Week Jan. 2. Davis joins Murray State's Isaiah Canaan (Player of the Week), Jerome Clyburn, of Austin Peay, and Kellen Thornton of Tennessee State (Co-Newcomers of the Week) as the OVC's weekly award winners.
SIUE, 5-12 overall and 3-5 in the OVC, is idle until Saturday when it travels to Jacksonville State for a 4:30 p.m. game.
