EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Zeke Schneider, a 6-foot, 9-inch, 215-pound standout from Metamora High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
SIUE coach Lennox Forrester welcomed Schneider to the program as a multi-dimensional player who will serve the program's needs.
"Zeke gives us some added size inside. He has a very high basketball IQ and will bring a great work ethic with him to practice every day," said Forrester. "Zeke has very good skills for being 6-9, giving him the ability to score inside and out."
Schneider averaged 15.8 points and 11.1 rebounds as a senior at Metamora. He was a two-time All-Area pick by the Peoria Journal Star and a two-time all-Mid Illini Conference first team selection.
"Zeke played under a very well-respected head coach at Metamora High School in Jim Youngman and has improved immensely over the past year through his hard work and dedication," said Forrester. "I look forward to coaching Zeke on a daily basis, helping him develop into a very good student-athlete at SIUE."
SIUE is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference and will begin playing a full OVC schedule in 2011-2012. The Cougars will be heading into year two of a four-year transition to NCAA Division I status.
