EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The SIUE senior class walked off the court as victors Thursday night in the Cougars' home finale at the Vadalabene Center.
SIUE defeated Hannibal-LaGrange 76-66. Cougar sophomore Mark Yelovich led all scorers with 28 points.
Aamir McCleary was the only senior who closed out his career in double figures. He scored 15 points and added a game-high eight rebounds and seven assists. Dane Church, Stephen Jones and Denykco Bowles also closed out their careers in Cougar uniforms. Forrester said these players have set a good foundation for the program going forward.
"It's hard in some sense that you have four seniors who mean a lot in the way they represent the program," said SIUE Head Coach Lennox Forrester. "You're going through the transition. A lot of people may look at it as wins and losses. I look at it differently. I look at it both on the floor and off the floor. These guys represent so much and have built a great foundation for what we stand for off the floor and in the classroom."
SIUE made the most of three pointers Thursday. Yelovich and Cody Rincker led SIUE with three each. The Cougars also picked up one each from McCleary, Church and David Boarden. Rincker was the third Cougar in double figures with 11 points.
Brock Webber led Hannibal-LaGrange with 14 points and Tomas Trujillo added 11.
The Cougars also took advantage of 19 Trojan turnovers and turned it into 29 points off those turnovers.
