EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will make its first appearance in ESPN Bracketbusters and will travel to Cal State-Fullerton for a men's basketball game on Feb. 20.
The game time of the contest has yet to be determined.
"We're happy to be in it. It's a great way to play other teams in different conferences that you wouldn't otherwise get to play," said SIUE Head Men's Basketball Coach Lennox Forrester.
This will mark the first time in school history that SIUE men's basketball will play a regular season game in California. It is not the longest trip, however, in school history. SIUE has made one trip to Hawaii for a tournament and played twice in Alaska.
"It's a huge step for the direction we're going in, making the transition to Division I," said Forrester.
Cal State-Fullerton, a member of the Big West Conference, is 10-10 so far this season and has five more games before facing the Cougars at Titan Gymnasium.
SIUE, 3-18, has four more games scheduled before the Bracketbusters event. The Cougars next travel to Southeast Missouri State Tuesday for a 7:45 p.m. game at the Show Me Center.
The Cougars join the 10 other Ohio Valley Conference schools with Bracketbusters matchups. Murray State will have its matchup announced later Monday and will play on one of the ESPN family of networks. The other OVC games include Oral Roberts at Austin Peay, Northern Illinois at Eastern Illinois, Winthrop at Eastern Kentucky, Presbyterian at Jacksonville State, Morehead State at Illinois State, Southeast Missouri at Miami (Ohio), Tennessee State at Central Michigan, Tennessee Tech at Appalachian State, and UT Martin at Ball State.
