EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division action continues this week with games at Drury and Rockhurst for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball team.
The Cougars are coming off a 12-point road loss to 13th-ranked Quincy this past Saturday.
"We knew going into the game that Quincy would be tough," said SIUE men's basketball coach Marty Simmons. "They are tough to match up with defensively and good inside and outside."
The Cougars were led by Nick Arth (Edwardsville) with 12 points and Ty Johnson (Springfield) with 11 points against Quincy.
The game marked Johnson's return to conference play after sitting out because of an injury.
"Having Ty back is a big lift to us. He will continue to get better and better as we head toward the end of the season," said Simmons.
Drury is next up for the Cougars. Game time is 8 p.m. Thursday in Springfield, Mo. When the two teams last met on Jan. 25, Drury beat SIUE 60-57.
"They have a great offense," said Simmons. "Brandon Kimbrough and Collins Harris are two very good players, and they have a lot of great players around them."
The Cougars will face off against Rockhurst Saturday. This will also be the second time SIUE will play Rockhurst this season; the last game resulted in a 72-65 SIUE win.
"They are a big strong physical team with good guards. They are a very good basketball team," said Simmons. "We are going to work hard this week to prepare for two tough road games."
