Tyrus Boswell scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as No. 1-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 82-53 Monday night at the Vadalabene Center.
SIUE, 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, shot just 29.9 percent from the field against the defending national champions. Kentucky Wesleyan improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC.
The Cougars picked up double-figures scoring from Derrick Fomby with 12 points and Marty Perry with 11. Willie Lee came off the bench with a team-high 10 rebounds with his eight points.
KWC got started early and didn't let up on the Cougars. The Panthers led 44-24 at halftime and cruised in the second half. The Panthers used their domination in rebounds to their advantage outscoring the Cougars 25-6 on second-chance points. Bobby Zuerner was the team's leading scorer with 18 points, including four three-pointers.
SIUE's next action is Thursday at the Mark Twain Building at UMSL. Game time is set for 7:45 p.m.
