Dean Pogozinski hit two free throws with five seconds left in double overtime as Wisconsin-Parkside stormed back to defeat Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 95-92 Thursday night at the Vadalabene Center
SIUE (7-11, 3-9) led by five in the overtime and then allowed an 8-0 run by Wisconsin-Parkside. The Rangers improved to 11-7 overall and 7-5 in the GLVC.
Ron Heflin scored a game-high 28 points for the Cougars and led five SIUE players in double figures. Marty Perry added 20 points for SIUE.
Wisconsin-Parkside came back from 14 points down late in the second half. Rashad Al Uqdah hit a jumper with seven seconds left to send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime, the two teams tied the game up five times with the last time being a pair of free throws by Heflin.
Marlon Grice led the charge for the Ranger with 23 points while fellow guard Quincey Moman added 22.
SIUE hopes to get back on the winning track on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. game at the Vadalabene Center against Saint Joseph's. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
