THE COUGARS: SIUE has lost four in a row but remain in contention for the final spot in next week's OVC Tournament. SIUE is one game behind Southeast Missouri and in a three-way tie with Tennessee Tech and UT Martin for the No. 8 seed. The Cougars hold tiebreakers with SEMO and UT Martin, but would lose out in a tie with TTU.
COMPLETING THE JOB: Saturday starter Kenny Serwa has tossed back-to-back complete games. He was awarded with the OVC Pitcher of the Week award May 6 after a complete-game win against Eastern Illinois.
HOME COOKING: The Cougars have been better at home this year. SIUE is 13-8 in home games, far eclipsing last year's home win total of four. The Cougars' batting average is .272 at home compared to .249 on the road. Their earned run average at home (5.14) is more than two runs better than on the road (7.39).
CONFERENCE CALL: SIUE is playing its eighth Ohio Valley Conference season in 2019. The Cougars have surpassed last year's win total (6) already. Through nine series this year, SIUE is 90-144 all-time in league play. The Cougars' best finish was third in 2015 when it was 19-11.
TRIPLE THREAT: The Cougar infield trio of Brady Bunten, Jordan Ross and Justin Perkins turned a rare triple play March 27 at Evansville. It was SIUE's first of the Division I era. It is one of two turned this year in the OVC and one of only 14 in Division I baseball.
SERIES STUFF: SIUE holds an 18-12 advantage in the all-time series with Murray State. The Cougars are 8-4 at home in the series. Last year, Murray State won two of three in Murray, Kentucky.
