EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE baseball will finally play its first home series of the year. After opening the season with 14 consecutive road games, the Cougars will play host to defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Tennessee Tech this weekend at Simmons Complex.
The Cougars are 5-9 overall and have a 1-2 record in OVC play.
"It will be nice to sleep in our beds and play at home in front of our fans," Lyons said.
The schedule has been adjusted due to weather. Friday's opener has been moved from 6 p.m. to a 4 p.m. start. Games two and three will be at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Tennessee Tech is 11-5 overall and 2-1 in OVC play. The Golden Eagles are one game behind Belmont for first place in the league.
"It's a big weekend on many fronts," SIUE Head Coach Sean Lyons said. "We started the OVC season 1-2 and now we come home to face the defending champs and the preseason favorites."
TTU leads the league in nearly every offensive category, including batting average at .362, doubles (52), home runs (42), runs scored (191) and RBIs (179).
"It's going to be a challenge," Lyons added. "(TTU) is putting up a lot of runs and some big offensive numbers. We have to limit what they do offensively.
The Cougars struggled early in the season at the plate, but have rebounded of late. SIUE is averaging 6.25 runs and 10.25 hits per game over its last four contests.
"It's going to take a strong offensive output on our parts as well," Lyons added.
Radio coverage and live stats are planned for the series.
