Daniels Named OVC Pitcher of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – SIUE starting pitcher Ryan Daniels (St. Louis) has been chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference baseball Pitcher of the Week following a complete game win over Tennessee Tech Friday.

The complete game effort was the first of the junior's career. He limited the OVC's best hitting team to just a single run on five hits. He struck out five during the game, including the final batter with the tying runs on base for the Golden Eagles. The right-hander improved to 4-0 with the victory.

Daniels currently is second in the OVC with a 1.90 earned run average and 47.1 innings pitched. His four wins are second most in the league, while his 38 strikeouts rank fifth.

The award is the first of Daniels' career. He joins Southeast Missouri's Matt Tellor who was honored as the OVC's Player of the Week.

The Cougars are 8-4 in OVC play and are tied for third in the league. SIUE travels to Evansville for a nonconference game Tuesday night before resuming OVC play with a three-game weekend series at Southeast Missouri.
