EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) joined with the Ohio Valley Conference SAAC as a participant in the NCAA initiative dedicated to overcoming the negative stigma surrounding mental health. SIUE SAAC wrapped up OVC Mental Health Awareness Week with a panel discussion on mental health Wednesday at the Vadalabene Center.
Panel members included:

- James Mays, Assistant Athletic Trainer, Athletics
- Mark Jamison, Director of Athletic Performance, Athletics
- Dr. Lindsay Ross-Stewart, Assistant Professor in Department of Applied Health and Sport Psychologist
The student-athletes of the OVC SAAC worked to develop weeklong activities centered on educating and informing individuals about mental health issues.
The week of February 18th-24th served as the second-annual Mental Health Awareness Week with SAAC sponsoring several days of events:
Monday: Meditation Monday, which included a message wall for encouraging notes and a yoga session.
Tuesday: Talk about it Tuesday (moved to Wednesday, Feb. 27), which featured a mental health discussion panel and ice cream social.
Wednesday: Wear Green Wednesday, student-athletes and supporters wore green to show support for overcoming the negative stigma associated with mental health.
Thursday: Insta Info Thursday, where SIUE SAAC used social media to distribute facts and statistics
Friday: Focus Friday, featuring mindfulness activities.
OVC SAAC's mission is to create a campus atmosphere that allows for the continuation of mental health support and discussion beyond Mental Health Awareness Week.
