SIUE Sweeps Georgia State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Mallory Nicholson closed out SIUE's first volleyball match Saturday at the Scenic City Showdown with a pair of service aces as the Cougars blanked Georgia State 25-11, 25-21, 25-20 at Mclellan Gymnasium.

SIUE, 6-2, completes the Scenic City Showdown at 3:30 p.m. with a match against Jackson State.

The Cougars were dominant from the opening serve of the match. Three straight kills from Samantha Knight, Taylor Joens and Emily Harrison put SIUE ahead early. SIUE never looked back.

Joens and Ashley Witt tied for the team lead in kills with 13.

Witt set a new career high for hitting percentage in a match at .542 with no errors on 24 attacks. Joens hit .357 for the match.

SIUE's serving also proved to be a problem for Georgia State, which fell to 3-6. Knight collected a career-high four service aces. Joens and Nicholson finished with two each.

Crystal Lee paced Georgia State with 10 kills.

As a team, SIUE hit a season-best .336. The Cougars completed the match with a season-low nine attack errors.
