SIUE Women Claim Three Events at NCC Last Chance
March 3, 2012
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Freshman Jasmine Ranson (Aurora) finished in the top 10 in four events Friday night leading the SIUE women's track and field team at the NCC Last Chance meet.
"It was fantastic to end the indoor season with so many personal records," said SIUE Assistant Coach Eileen McAllister. "The team did a nice job of staying focused between distractions of a tough academic week, having not competed for several weeks, and the start of spring break."
Ranson's best finish came in the 200 meters where she placed second in a time of 25.73. She also finished fifth in the triple jump (37 feet, 6.75 inches), sixth in the high jump (5-1), and seventh in the long jump (17-4.75).
"It was a busy and productive day for the freshman," added McAllister.
"That was a great mark for a true freshman," said McAllister.
Colleen McDonough was the final event winner taking the shot put with a mark of 46-4.25, which put the junior into third all-time at SIUE.
Senaya also turned in the third-fastest time in Cougar history in the 60 meters finishing in 7.78 seconds for second place.
Freshman Jatavia Wright ran the fastest time in the 60 hurdles preliminary round but finished second overall with a time of 8.78.
Michelle Higgins was close behind in fifth with a personal-best time of 8.92 as the junior turned in three top 10 performances on the day. The Aurora native also placed fifth in the long jump (17-9) and sixth in the triple jump (37-2.25).
Ciara Turner set two personal bests in the 200 meters (25.77) and the 60 meters (7.86) placing third and fifth, respectively, helping the Cougars sweep the top three spots in the 200 meters.
"The team will have spring break to recover and get ready to start the outdoor season," added McAllister.
The Cougars now have four weeks to prepare for the outdoor season which begins March 31 in Oxford, Miss., at the Ole Miss Invitational.
