EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE men's and women's track and field schedules have been released for the 2017-18 indoor and outdoor seasons.
The indoor season will get underway Dec. 8 when the Cougars compete in a dual invite with Southeast Missouri.
"The dual invite with SEMO is going to be a lot of fun," Head Coach Scott Block said. "It's an early bird invite before winter break so it gives our athletes a little more motivation to train and stay fit during the break."
The Cougars will then travel to three in-state meets, the Illini Classic Jan. 13 in Champaign, Illinois, the John Craft Invite Jan. 20 in Charleston, Illinois, and the Don DeNoon Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois, Feb. 2-3.
SIUE heads to the Marshall Invite Feb. 9-10 to wrap-up the indoor regular season.
"We are very excited about the Marshall Invite," Block added. "It's somewhere we've never been, and it gives our athletes a chance to compete with teams we usually don't face."
The Cougars will head into the postseason with the OVC Indoor Championships at Eastern Illinois Feb. 23-24. SIUE broke three school records and had five champions at last season's OVC Indoor Championships.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held at Texas A&M Mar. 9-10.
The Cougars also begin their outdoor season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Mar. 9-10.
"The Coastal Carolina Invite gives us an opportunity to train and compete in a warm environment," Block said.
SIUE will then travel to the Bill Cornell Classic Mar. 23-24 in Carbondale, Illinois, and the Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Mar. 30-31. The Cougars also will be competing in the Washington University Invite, Mar. 30.
The Cougars will then host the SIUE Gateway Classic Apr. 7.
"We are hosting the SIUE Gateway Classic in conjunction with an alumni event, so hopefully we will have a big crowd," Block said. "We are excited to showcase our talent in front of our fans."
SIUE will take on the Redbird Invite in Normal, Illinois, Apr. 13-14. The Cougars will then head to the Tom Botts Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, Apr. 20-21 and the Crusader Open in Valparaiso, Indiana, Apr. 28 to close out the outdoor regular season.
The OVC Outdoor Championships will be held in Cookeville, Tennessee, May 10-12.
The NCAA First Round competition will be held May 24-26, and the NCAA Championships will take place June 6-9.
