Harvey and Virgl

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – This week SIUE track and field has not one but two athletes that have been chosen to be honored by the OVC for their performances at the SIU Don DeNoon Invitational.

Senior Julian Harvey (Edwardsville, Illinois) was named Male OVC Field Athlete of the Week along with female counterpart, junior Lizzie Virgl (Wahoo, Nebraska), who received the prestige of Female OVC Field Athlete of the Week.

Harvey put up an exceptional performance by placing third in the high jump with a leap of 7 feet, 0.25 inches. He is first in the OVC this year and ranks 29th in the nation.

Virgl impressed in the weight throw category by taking sixth place at the Invitational last week. She recorded a personal-best toss of 55-10.25, which ranks fifth in the OVC this year.

"Lizzie has put her training into high gear this season," said SIUE Head Coach Scott Block. "She has made vast improvements, and I am excited to see what she will do in the next few weeks."

SIUE men's and women's track and field continues their indoor season with the GVSU Big Meet and the Tyson Invitational this Friday.
