Bruins Down the Cougars

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE women's tennis team fell to Belmont 5-2 at the Edwardsville YMCA Saturday.

"I'm proud of the team's effort the last two days," SIUE Head Coach Nick Mueller said. "We have made big strides individually and have many positives heading into next weekend."

Lara Tupper and Ann-Christine Link both won their singles matches for the Cougars (0-16, 0-5 Ohio Valley Conference). In the No. 1 singles match, Tupper defeated Maria Plaksina of Belmont 6-4, 6-1. In No. 2 singles play, Link defeated Erin Allen (Belmont) 7-6, 6-3. Tupper and Link also both won their singles matches Friday against Tennessee State.

In doubles play, the No. 1 match saw Allen and Drew Hawkins (Belmont) defeat SIUE's duo of Link and Raillane Kamdem 6-2.

The Cougars will be back in action Friday when they travel to face Austin Peay, match time set for 2 p.m.
