SIUE Finishes Strong at Indoor Invite

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE women's tennis teams closes out their fall season with a strong showing at the SIUE Indoor Invite.

The indoor invite showcased top talent from seven Division I schools in the midwest. 

"Im proud of how our team competed," Head Coach Nick Mueller added. "We had many good learning moments from this weekend."

A Doubles: Morgan Steffes / Ann-Christine Link (SIUE) def. Labina Petrovska/Anna Fuentes (Milwaukee), 6-0 in the first round. Marli Van Heerden/Pramethong (Central Arkansas) def. Steffes/Link, 6-1 in the semifinals. Haily Morgan/Luisa Pelayo (Wright State) def. Steffes/Link, 6-3 in the third place match. Raillane Kamdem / Hee-Jin Oh (Central Arkansas) def. Anna Daniel Fuentes/ Labina Petrovska, 6-3 in an added seventh place match.

B Doubles: Lara Tupper / Callaghan Adams (SIUE) def. Reynolds/Jones (WSU), 6-4 in the first round. Xiang/Shioguchi (UCA) def. Tupper/Adams, 7-6(7) in the semifinals. Tupper/Adams def. Riegraf/Jack (Western Michigan), 6-3 in the third match.

C doubles: Kamdem teamed up with Gabriela Slavova of Western Michigan. Clark/Freirich (UWM) def. Kamdem/Slavova, 6-3. Kamdem/Slavova def. Oh (UCA) / Trinkle (IUPUI).

A Singles: Steffes def. Morgan (WSU), 6-1, 6-4. Pramethong (UCA) def. Steffes, 7-5, 7(3)-6 in the semifinals. Ma (UCA) def. Steffes, 6-4, 7-5 in the third place game.

B Singles: Xiang (UCA) def. Tupper, 6-4, 7-6(8). Link def. Loren Nelson (UWM), 3-6, 6-1, 10-8. Link Riegraf (WMU) def. Link, 7(7)-6, 6-4 in the semifinals. Tupper def. Krupa (SEMO), 0-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the consolation semifinals. Tupper fell to Oh (UCA) 6-3, 6-2 in the consolation finals. Link def. Xiang (UCA) 6-4, 6-2 in the third place match. 

C Singles: Kamdem def. Mayer (IUPUI), 6-3, 6-3. Shimoguchi (UCA) def. Kamdem, 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. Kamdem took home third place after defeating Jack (WMU) 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in the third place match.

D Singles: Adams def. Clarke (UWM), 6-1, 7-5. Adams def. Grubb (IUPUI), 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 in the semifinals. Heerden def. Adams, 7-5, 7-5 in a hard fought final.

"Ann-Christine and Raillane both had strong finishes to the tournament," Mueller said. "Callaghan was only a few points from winning her singles flight. This will be a great transition into the spring."

SIUE women's tennis will be back in action during their spring season. The season opener will be Jan. 26th as the Cougars host IUPUI.
