Cougars Finish Strong at ITA Regional

LAWRENCE, KS. - SIUE women's tennis fared well in their last day of the ITA Regional at Kansas. 

The regional event consisted of the top players from around the Midwest. Lara Tupper and Ann-Christine Link competed for the Cougars. 

Thursday saw the start of the doubles tournament. Link/Tupper fell to the duo of Serena Nash and Clare Raley from Missouri 8-3. 

In the singles tournament, Link fell to Kalyssa Hall of Minnesota 6-1,6-4. Tupper lost to Camila Romero of Oklahoma 6-1, 6-0.

On day two, Tupper and Link played in the singles consolation tournament. Tuper fell to Sabina Jeresic of Arkansas State 6-2, 6-0. Link faced Berta Masip of Arkansas State, losing 6-3, 6-3.

Saturday, Tupper defeated Isabella Krupa of Southeast Missouri 7-6, (7-5), 6-1.

"Lara had a great finish to the tournament today," Head Coach Nick Mueller said. "It was windy conditions and she played very smart against one of SEMO's strongest players."

The Cougars will host their second tournament of the fall next week.

"We look forward to our final fall tournament, the SIUE Indoor Invite, next weekend," Mueller added. 

SIUE Indoor Invite play will start Friday.
