EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis ran its Ohio Valley Conference record to 7-3 Sunday with its sixth consecutive victory.
The Cougars defeated Tennessee State 6-0 at the Edwardsville Y and will head into next week's OVC Tournament in Paducah, Ky., as the No. 4 seed. The complete seeding and start times for SIUE's first-ever appearance in the OVC Tournament will be announced later by the league.
"As the season has progressed we have played better and better as a team," said SIUE's McKenzie Thomas. "We're not only getting into the tournament, but we are confident with ourselves that we can win the tournament which is a good thing to see."
Thomas said she wasn't playing her best tennis at the beginning of the season but as the season progressed she has continued to improve.
"I'm glad I'm playing my best when my best is needed because it's the most important time of the year," Thomas added.
Head Coach Jason Coomer and his Cougars have the longest winning streak heading into tournament play.
"He has taken this program so far," said Thomas. "I think it is so great how much he has developed this program and how much he has raised it to the level it is at now."
Tennessee State completed its season with a 0-16 record and a 0-10 OVC record.
