EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis extended its winning streak to five matches Saturday with a 6-1 triumph over Belmont at the SIUE Tennis Courts.
The Cougars, now 11-8 overall and 6-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference, also guaranteed its first winning season since the 2007-08 campaign.
"Our women continued their strong play today," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer. "This is exactly the type of performance we hoped for from our team. We're going to look to continue this level of play tomorrow and start the week off as we move on to the conference tournament."
The Cougars have locked up a spot in next week's six-team OVC Tournament but will not know their seed until all of the league's play concludes tomorrow. SIUE's final regular season match is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 a.m. when the Tigers of Tennessee State come to Edwardsville.
On Saturday, SIUE won five of six singles matches plus the doubles point.
"We got off to another fast start in doubles," said Coomer. "That has been crucial for us this season."

Aranda set the standard early for SIUE in singles, overpowering Kancheva at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0.
Frogner followed for SIUE at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Laura Van Eeckhoudt.
