EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – In-state rivals Northern Illinois and Chicago State are next up for the SIUE women's tennis team.
SIUE, 2-1, will travel to DeKalb, Ill., for a 1 p.m. Friday match against NIU followed by a 9 a.m. Saturday match at Chicago State.
"What we're looking for is consistency and discipline on the court," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer. "We've certainly come a long way but certainly have strides to make."
Coomer said the Cougars have been looking forward to the NIU match because they didn't feel they played well against the Huskies last season.
"A lot of that was due to how NIU came out with a high level of intensity," noted Coomer. "I think our focus and level of commitment has certainly increased over the last 12 months."
The Cougars also will have a quick turnaround for the Chicago State match.
"This will be a very physically demanding weekend having such a short turnaround time between matches. Our players will be prepared for this as it is very similar to what we face in the OVC Tournament playing a late match and then an early-morning match the next day."
