EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis will close out the fall season at the Drake Jamboree in Des Moines, Iowa, this weekend.
The Cougars will compete against Drake, Iowa, Creighton, and Bradley at the three-day event that begins Friday. Competition gets underway at 11 a.m. with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Action continues Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m. with doubles followed by singles play at approximately 10 a.m.
"There will be a very high level of talent at this event with all of the teams competing in our region," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer.
Coomer said he will be asking some of the players to compete in different lineup positions at this event.
"In making some of those changes, we have the utmost confidence they will deliver and compete at a very high level," said Coomer.
"When this team is healthy, we have a variety of options for our lineup," said Coomer. "Each and every day our players understand they may be asked to step up because we are extremely competitive one through eight in our lineup."
Coomer said the tournament provides a unique format for his team. Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) experimental rules will be in place, including one-ad scoring and tiebreakers at 5-5 in every set.
"It will be a good opportunity for our players to play under the new ITA experimental rules before we get into our winter season," said Coomer. "We have been competing in practice with these rules for a few weeks now, and I don't have any serious concerns that it will have any impact on our play."
