Doubles Play Concludes at Regional

NORMAN, Okla. – Rain forced play indoors Friday at the USTA/ITA Women's Central Regional Tennis Championship.

Tournament officials made the determination to play the doubles event Friday and move the main singles draw to a Saturday morning start.

SIUE finished 1-2 in doubles matches. SIUE's Monique Krutak and Kali Donner picked up a solid 8-0 victory over Western Illinois' Elana Berdichevsky and Jenna Wallace.

Krutak and Donner then were defeated in the second round by a seeded duo. Renata Kuricova and Saana Saarteinen, of Tulsa, topped Krutak and Donner 8-2.

"We played a very solid team second round," said SIUE women's tennis Assistant Coach Amanda Pratzel. "We have something that we can take back that we know we need to work on to get to the next level,"

The SIUE duo of Lexi Aranda and Sierra Halverson were downed in the opening round by SIU Carbondale's Natasha Tomishima and Korey Love 8-5.

Krutak will begin play at 8 a.m. Saturday in the main singles draw. She will face Tulsa's Maria Sant'Anna in the opening round. Sant'Anna advanced to the main singles draw with a pair of straight sets victories Thursday in the qualifying draw.

"Our expectation is to go out there and win," said Pratzel. "Monique has the capability. It will be exciting to go out tomorrow and watch her."
