SIUE Women's Tennis Releases 2013-14 Schedule

2013-14 Schedule

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis Head Coach Jason Coomer announced his team's 2013-14 schedule, one that he believes will push a talented, young squad.

"Without question, this will be a challenging slate for our women," Coomer said, "but we do have a high level of confidence in our players and expect this to be an exciting year."

The Cougars are coming off a breakthrough season in which freshman Monique Krutak (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year as well as member of the All-Conference team.

With a first-ever OVC Freshman of the Year award, Coomer said individual accolades are exciting but the Cougars are looking forward to team success in the 2013-14 campaign. The season begins with this weekend's Saint Louis University Fall Invitational.

In addition to Krutak, the Cougars have five returners to the roster. The list includes juniors Kali Donner (Weston, Fla.), Lindsey Raymond (Naples, Fla.), and Haley Ilcewicz (Lockport, Ill.) as well as sophomores Sierra Halverson (Upsala, Minn.) and McKenzie Thomas (Evansville, Ind.).

SIUE added a pair of freshman to the mix this season with Lexi Aranda (Longwood, Fla.) and Mia Frogner (Oslo, Norway).

SIUE's home schedule begins Sept. 13-15 with the SIUE Fall Invitational. The Cougars welcome Evansville, Butler, and Eastern Illinois.

The Cougars also have events at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional in Norman, Okla., (Oct. 17-20) as well as the Northern Illinois Fall Invitational (Oct. 25-26).

The dual meet schedule begins Jan. 20 at Missouri. SIUE also has non-conference road contests at Dayton (Jan. 24), Wright State (Jan. 25), Northern Illinois (Feb. 7), Chicago State (Feb. 8), and Saint Louis (Feb. 21).

SIUE also will make a southern trip to Loyola (New Orleans) (Mar. 8) and New Orleans (Mar. 9).

"Our schedule takes us to a different part of the country this year," said Coomer. "Along with the athletic competition side, this trip also will serve as a great opportunity to be educated on the resilience of the City of New Orleans."

Evansville comes to the Edwardsville YMCA for a dual Feb. 15.

A rigorous non-conference schedule sets up SIUE's OVC schedule.

SIUE has OVC road contests at Eastern Kentucky (Mar. 15), Morehead State (Mar. 16), Murray State (Mar. 29), Austin Peay (Mar. 30), Eastern Illinois (Apr. 3), and Southeast Missouri (Apr. 5).

The home OVC schedule includes Jacksonville State (Mar. 22) and closes out the regular season with three straight against UT Martin (Apr. 6), Belmont (Apr. 12), and Tennessee State (Apr. 13).

The postseason OVC Tournament is scheduled for Apr. 18-20 in Nashville, Tenn.
