EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE men's and women's tennis team each had a member named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference teams as Marten Jonsson and Monique Krutak were both recognized for their achievements on the court this season.
Krutak was named OVC Freshman of the Year on the women's side as well as garnering first team All-OVC accolades.
"We're extremely proud of Monique and this great honor," Head Coach Jason Coomer said. "She demonstrated throughout the whole season that she is one of the top players in our conference. We're excited about her future here at SIUE."
A native of Brisbane, Australia, Krutak made an immediate impact for the Cougars by posting an overall singles record of 16-4. The freshman, who arrived at SIUE in January, led the team in singles victories, and was among the OVC leaders in singles wins, win percentage, and No. 1 singles victories.
In doubles, Krutak developed chemistry with sophomore Haley Ilcewicz to go 11-3 as a doubles pair in the spring. The duo's 11 wins tied for the OVC lead.
Jonsson was named a second team All-OVC performer on the men's side.
"This is a great honor for Marten," Coomer said. "Marten's passion for the game and desire to be at the top of our conference is something he focuses on daily. I'm confident that as Marten continues his growth, all of his goals will be attainable."
In his second year at SIUE out of Pitea, Sweden, Jonsson finished the season with an overall record of 10-6 at No. 1 singles. The sophomore also had a 5-3 singles record in OVC play.
