EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The SIUE women's tennis team split the six singles matches, but came up short against Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois Wednesday at the SIUE Tennis Courts.
The Panthers took the match by a 4-3 final, sweeping the doubles portion of the match before winning three of six singles matches. The loss drops SIUE to 7-11 overall and 3-4 in the OVC.
"This was a hard-fought match by both teams," Head Coach Jason Coomer said. "The 4-3 score indicates how close this match was. We competed well, but just came up a bit short."
In singles play, Monique Krutak improved her overall record to 16-1 with a win over Janelle Prisner.
"We couldn't be happier with Monique's development," Coomer said. "She continues to show why she's one of the best players in our league, and she can expect to get everyone's best shot when she steps on the court."
"I thought Haley played very well today," Coomer added. "She was in control of her match from the beginning, and she showed why she can be such a tough matchup for anyone."
SIUE will be back in action Sunday when they hit the road to face Jacksonville State. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
