Cougar Women's Tennis Drops OVC Pair
MURRAY, Ky. - The SIUE women's tennis team hit the road to open its first season in the Ohio Valley Conference and lost a pair of matches to Austin Peay 5-2 and Murray State 7-0.
The Cougars (5-8, 0-2 OVC) opened the conference season at Austin Peay (4-9, 1-0 OVC) Saturday night and came up short in a 5-2 loss.
Senior Laura Horning got the first SIUE point when her opponent Vanessa Tavarez retired in the first set.
Freshman Lindsey Raymond gave the Cougars another point when she picked up an 8-5 win over APSU's Jovana Karak.
SIUE then faced Murray State (5-7, 1-0 OVC) Sunday and the Racers cruised to a 7-0 win.
Raymond came close to giving the Cougars a point at No. 6 singles but lost in a third-set tiebreaker 7-5, 2-6, 0-1 (5-10) to MSU's Ashley Pierson.
SIUE returns home for a pair of OVC matches against Tennessee State and Jacksonville State March 24 and 25, respectively.
