Cougars Grab Victory Over South Dakota State

FT. MYERS, Fla. - A three-set victory by Rachel Webb put the Cougars on top as SIUE women's tennis collected a 4-3 victory over South Dakota State.

Playing at the courts on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast, the Cougars won four singles matches en route to evening their season record to 5-5.

"I was really happy with the way the team played after losing the double point. That really showed their mental toughness," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer.

Webb lost the first set of her No. 3 singles match but came back to defeat SDSU's Brooke Henry 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. "Webb played with experience and found a way to win her match," added Coomer.

SIUE won the singles matches from No. 3 to No. 6. After Webb, Haley Ilcewicz defeated Megan McDougall 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4 singles. Laura Horning was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 5 singles over Natalia Medina. Lindsey Raymond topped Anna Botzet at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-4.

"It was good to see Lindsey Raymond pick up two wins today in her homecoming," said Coomer. Raymond, who hails from nearby Naples, Fla., and doubles partner Joanna Corkern were victors at No. 3 doubles 8-0 over Medina and Botzet.

SIUE plays host Florida Gulf Coast tomorrow in a 10 a.m. ET match.
