EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The SIUE women's tennis team faced a talented Evansville squad Saturday night and lost 7-0 at the Edwardsville YMCA.
The Cougars dropped to 4-5 with their third straight loss, while the Purple Aces improved to 7-3 overall with their third consecutive win.
Evansville opened the match by winning two of the three doubles spots to get the opening point, and the rout continued into singles play.
"I was happy the way Amanda played tonight," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer. "She continues to get stronger and stronger. We expect a lot out of her, and she has been answering the call."
The Purple Aces won all six singles positions in straight sets to close out the victory.
"We are going to regroup and refocus for a few quality opponents coming up next week in Florida," added Coomer. "I expect our team to bounce back with the help of our senior leadership. The younger players will have to overcome some adversity to get back to the level of play from earlier in the season."
The Cougars head to Fort Myers, Fla., for spring break where they will face South Dakota State and Florida Gulf Coast March 6 and 7, respectively.
