CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The SIUE women's tennis team put the finishing touches on its fall schedule at the Austin Peay Fall Tournament.
"Our women's program continues to make great strides," said SIUE Head Coach Jason Coomer. "I know each of our players is not satisfied with where we are currently at. The fact that we are not complacent demonstrates the competiveness this team possesses."
Sophomore Rachel Webb reached the semifinals of singles Flight A as she pulled out a pair of three-set wins over Belmont's Catherine Holliday and Katie Hargrove from Lewis.
"I was particularly happy to see the play of Rachel this weekend," added Coomer. "I think her performance speaks volumes about our conditioning regimen and the work she has put in off the court."
Haley Ilcewicz also put together another successful fall weekend for the Cougars. The freshman opened with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Bayley Brown from Lewis.
"Haley continues to show why we wanted her at SIUE," said Coomer. "She is a fierce competitor and found a way to get the win. She had a great weekend and we are excited to see her high level of play continue into the indoor season."
Webb and Ilcewicz also teamed up for a pair of Flight B doubles wins.
The Cougars will continue to train through the winter leading up to its first dual match of the spring Jan. 20 against IUPUI at the Edwardsville YMCA.
